Beat maker split sheet example

Not sure what a beat maker’s split sheet or agreement should look like? Here are practical examples for the four most common beat deal structures.

Example 1: Beat lease with lyrics added

Split sheet summary

Song: "Faded Lights"

Date: March 20, 2026

Jordan Hayes — Beat Maker / Producer — 50%

Alex Rivera — Songwriter / Vocalist — 50%

Total: 100%

Note: Beat leased non-exclusively. Composition co-owned.

The beat maker leased the instrumental. The artist wrote lyrics and melody over it, creating a co-owned composition. Both parties are listed on the split sheet. Create this with the split sheet generator.

Example 2: Exclusive purchase with co-ownership

Split sheet summary

Song: "Late Nights"

Date: April 5, 2026

Morgan Lee — Artist / Songwriter — 70%

Sam Chen — Beat Maker — 30%

Total: 100%

Note: Exclusive purchase. Beat maker retains 30% composition ownership.

The artist bought exclusive rights but the beat maker retained 30% of the composition for ongoing royalties. Use the producer split calculator to determine a fair split.

Example 3: Work-for-hire (full transfer)

Work-for-hire summary

Hiring Party: Taylor Kim

Contractor: Casey Park (Beat Maker)

Fee: $1,200 USD — flat fee, one-time payment

Ownership: All rights transfer to Taylor Kim upon payment.

The beat maker was paid a flat fee and transferred all rights. No split sheet needed. Create this with the work-for-hire agreement generator.

Example 4: Exclusive with publishing retained

Co-writer agreement summary

Song: "Midnight Run"

Date: March 28, 2026

Riley Nguyen — Artist / Songwriter — 60%

Jordan Hayes — Beat Maker — 40%

Master: exclusive to Riley Nguyen

Publishing: split per ownership percentages

Terms: No transfer without written consent. Territory: worldwide.

The beat maker sold exclusive master rights but retained 40% composition ownership including publishing. This requires a co-writer agreement with explicit publishing terms. For more on keeping publishing, read how to sell beats and keep publishing.
